How to ask an AI agent about your Webflow site traffic

Connect Webflow's MCP server to Claude or ChatGPT, then ask plain questions about visits, A/B tests and AI visibility, with read-only data and no changes to your site.

15 min · Updated October 15, 2026 · Tools: Webflow, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor

  1. 1Check what your site has. Traffic, test and AI visibility data come from three optional Webflow add-ons: Analyze, Optimize and AEO. Open your site's settings and confirm which ones are switched on for the site you care about.
  2. 2Connect Webflow to your AI app. In Claude, click the plus symbol, choose Add connectors and connect Webflow. In ChatGPT, open the Webflow app listing and click Connect. Other tools can use the server address from Webflow's docs.
  3. 3Authorize only the sites you need. Sign in to Webflow when asked, pick the sites and workspaces the AI may see, and click Authorize App. Choose the one site you want to ask about, not everything.
  4. 4Ask plain questions about traffic. Start with simple ones: which pages got the most visits last month, where visitors come from, and whether people reach your contact page. Ask the AI to say which numbers it pulled.
  5. 5Ask about tests and AI visibility. If you run Optimize tests, ask which variation is ahead and by how much. If AEO is on, ask which pages AI crawlers request most and how answer engines responded to your tracked prompts.
  6. 6Keep it read-only. The analytics tools only read data, but the same server can also change your site. Keep the approval prompts on, ask for explanations before edits, and check Webflow's activity log if something looks off.

Webflow announced on October 15, 2026 that AI agents using its MCP server can now read how a site performs. That covers page-level traffic and goals, results from A/B tests, and how your brand shows up in AI answers. In practice you can type a question to Claude or ChatGPT and get an answer drawn from your own site's numbers.

What you can ask about

Webflow groups the data into three areas, and each needs its own add-on.

Area What the AI can read Add-on
Traffic Sessions, users, pageviews, top pages, sources, time on page, scroll depth, goals Analyze
Experiments Tests you run, results per variation, audience insights, trends over time Optimize
AI visibility Requests from AI crawlers, tracked prompts, brand visibility, citations AEO

All three are read-only. Webflow's docs say the add-ons are available on paid Site plans, and the pages we read don't list prices. If you don't have an add-on, expect that part to come back empty or unavailable. We haven't tested what each AI app says in that case.

What an MCP server is

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI apps to outside tools. A server is the piece that sits on the service's side. Our explainer on what MCP is covers the basics. For you, it means the AI can ask Webflow for data instead of you pasting screenshots.

Connect it

Webflow's docs give click-by-click steps for two apps.

  • Claude: click the plus symbol in the chat, choose Add connectors, find Webflow (switch from Featured to All if it's missing) and click Connect.
  • ChatGPT: open the Webflow app listing, click Connect, sign in with Webflow, then mention @Webflow in a chat.

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor connect to the server address in Webflow's docs. See our Claude page and ChatGPT page if you haven't picked an assistant yet.

You then choose which sites and workspaces to share and click Authorize App. One authorization covers one workspace. To switch to another, you re-authorize or reinstall the connector. Agents can only do what your own Webflow role allows.

Questions to start with

Keep early questions small and checkable.

  1. "Which five pages had the most visits last month?"
  2. "Where did visitors to the pricing page come from?"
  3. "Did more people reach the contact form this month than last?"
  4. "Which variation is winning in my homepage test, and is the gap big?"
  5. "Which pages do AI crawlers request most?"

Ask the AI to show the figures it used, and compare one or two against the Webflow dashboard. AI summaries can slip, so treat the dashboard as the record. For why, see why AI hallucinates.

Stay safe

The server is not only a reporting tool. Webflow's docs describe tools that build pages, edit CMS content, change settings and manage assets. Reading traffic is harmless, but a loosely worded request could trigger an edit.

  • Keep your AI app's approval prompts on. ChatGPT asks before acting in Webflow by default.
  • Say "read only, don't change anything" at the start of an analytics chat.
  • Authorize only the site you need.
  • Use a Webflow role with limited rights for the connection if your team allows it.
  • Webflow keeps an activity log that records changes made by agents, so you can review them.

Who this helps

If you run a small business site, you probably don't open the analytics dashboard every week. An agent lowers that bar: ask a question in everyday words and get a short summary. A web team can use the same connection to spot which pages deserve a test, then ask for the result a few days later. Treat the answers as a starting point for decisions, not the final word, and check anything that will cost money or change your pricing.

Limits to know

Some features need the Designer open with Webflow's bridge app connected, mainly visual and selection tools. Analytics questions don't depend on that. Webflow's October 15 update also says Gemini support for Enterprise plans is still in development.

Got questions?

Quick answers, plain words

What is an MCP server?

It's a connection point that lets an AI app read from, or act in, another service through a common standard. Webflow's MCP server lets an AI app see your Webflow site's data.

Which AI apps work with Webflow's MCP server?

Webflow's docs name Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor. Its October 15 update says Google Gemini now joins Claude and ChatGPT as a connector, with Gemini support for Enterprise plans still in development.

Does this cost extra?

Webflow says Analyze, Optimize and AEO are optional add-ons on paid Site plans. The pages we read don't list prices, so check your own Webflow account or ask Webflow sales.

Can the AI change my site while I ask about traffic?

The analytics, test and AI visibility tools are read-only. The same server also has tools that edit pages and content, within your own permissions, so keep approval prompts on.

Is my analytics data private?

The AI works only with the sites and workspaces you authorize, and only within your Webflow permissions. Data you ask about goes to whichever AI app you use, so follow that app's privacy settings.
