Slate opens its first showroom for its $24,950 electric truck

Slate's first Experience Center in Chicago lets shoppers sit in a prototype and pre-order with a $300 deposit. Real trucks are still waiting on mass production.

  • Slate opened its first showroom, the Slate Experience Center in Chicago's Fulton Market District, on October 15, 2026.
  • The base Slate Truck costs $24,950, has window winders and a projected range of 205 miles, and can be pre-ordered with a $300 deposit.
  • The truck on display is an older hand-built prototype in a black wrap, and the Warsaw, Indiana assembly line is still doing prototype runs.
  • Engadget's mock build with a squareback body and accessories came to about $37,918 including the $1,450 destination fee.

Why it matters: Slate opened its first showroom in Chicago on October 15, where shoppers can sit in a prototype of its $24,950 electric pickup and pre-order with a $300 deposit. The only truck on display is an older hand-built prototype, and the Indiana plant is still making prototype runs. Slate says some trucks ship to investors and employees by the end of 2026. Early orderers should get theirs in early 2027.
